Today your elevator speech doesn’t matter as much as your Google does. The chances of somebody getting on an elevator with a key decision maker or hiring manager are slim, but the chances of that person doing a Google search on you are high. Hank’s presentation outlines how to use social and personal networks to improve your online presence with your thought leadership and how to create a strong personal network to create your word of mouth.

Over the last few months we have been doing more than planning our next social or researching potential speakers. We wanted to hear what you had to say, so we went out and asked our members, colleagues and friends one important question: What can AAF Tampa Bay do for you?
While our luncheons were well attended, many people suggested networking events that take place after work. For many of us in the ad business that usually means midnight or later, so we settled for 5pm- 7pm. That gives everyone a chance to network between 5pm/ 5:30pm before we introduce a speaker for the remainder of the evening. Our goal is to entice national speakers, and we’re getting there, but that’s going to require your help. The better attended our events become, the better we look to the captain of the football team standing on the other side of the gym.
We’ve introduced a workshop series titled “The Fed”. Courses vary from how to use LinkedIn to gain ground in your professional career to Photoshop basics – tips and tricks. Just like our networking events, courses will begin at 5:30pm followed by a half-hour mix and mingle. Not only will we feed you, but we’ll even throw in a certificate of completion. We’ve built in a solid succession plan so we can continue to build on these programs rather than reinvent them.
With all the attention these days in Washington about leadership, we thought this would be a perfect topic for our November program. This Thursday, November 21st, we welcome internationally-known business speaker Lou Heckler. In his presentation, “Leadership by CHOICE”, Lou will offer us five actions he has observed in great leaders over his more than 40 years in business in the U.S.
Great leaders possess key skills that propel them to the top of their organizations. This program looks at six of those skills, following the acronym “C-H-O-I-C-E” to define the traits of a great leader. Do you have what it takes? Or are there a few skills that you could implement to excel your leadership abilities?
Lou’s program will combine practicable, do-able ideas with his trademark whimsical sense of humor and some hilarious stories to make his points hit home. Lou speaks annually to dozens of corporations, trade associations and universities and has been a contributor to the nationally-televised PBS program, “Nightly Business Report.” Find out more about Lou by visiting www.LouHeckler.com
That brings me to membership. We’ve revamped our membership packages to reflect the new program structure. Corporate Members are now able to attend four networking events or workshops for FREE. Yes, Free. But wait, there’s more-you can customize your package to fit your interests and schedule.
